Dear friends @ ATN,

Found out last week after a rough three months that I'm now officially in Stage IV (of IV) congestive heart failure. I've had nine years to prepare both emotionally, and spiritually and have done all I can in terms of compliance with diet, medicine and regular office visits to ward off the inevitable. Alas, the "inevitable" has become a reality.

Please pray for my wife (sorrow, worry, patience & stress). She has long had the responsibility of bringin home the bacon since I had to stop working and now I'm afraid she will end up having even more to do. She's been such a loving helpmate and companion. It tears me up to see her so sad.

In addition, DW is scheduled for bilateral knee replacement surgery June 6th, and must spend 10-12 days in the hospital and @ rehab before coming home for an eight week recuperation. It ought to be interesting to see the two of us try to care for one another this summer. It also may be amusing to see how I do on my own.

I now have to use oxygen 24/7 due to extreme fatigue. Thankfully I do not have lung disease, but the disease has begun to affect the right chamber of my heart and I must be concerned with water retention and the eventuality that my lungs will fill with fluid. Some days walking is difficult, others it's out of the question.

Hope this gives you enough specific issues to pray about :lol , but mostly I'm concerned about my wife. We've been waiting nine years since diagnosis for the other shoe to drop. The wonder drug is no longer effective in doing the pumping work of the left ventricle. The doctors say a transplant is the only option and I am not quite at that point, but whether or not to even have one is a matter I must pray about.

If anyone has an encouraging success story about a loved one who has had successful heart transplant surgery, I'd sure like to hear about it (a PM would be fine).

Most of all, brothers and sisters, thanks for listening to me think out loud as the finality of this process looms ever closer. I feel as prepared as a believer can be, but I've got to say that even when you think you've accepted the Lord's will in terms of knowing that you're going to die, it's still a "biggie" at times.

Thanks in advance for your continued prayers for our health, my decision and especially my wife's blessing and refreshment at this solitary and confusing time.

Terry ;feeling ill

I am praying for you and your wife.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Is a heart transplant an option for you, or does your health make that an impossibility?

Thanks all for your prayer and concern.

Karen, at the present time I would be a suitable candidate for transplant, but am not yet at the point technically where I would be added to a transplant list. An educated guess gives me perhaps two years, maybe less, before I reach that milestone.

That will give us time to discuss the Lord's will in terms of the surgery itself, quality of life issues and financial considerations. I don't want to leave my wife in a bind while I'm rejoicing in Heaven. :redrose

DW has enjoyed a 35 year career the in ER, OR, ICU, CCU, also as part of transplant teams, even accompanying couriers on deliveries of organs for transplantation. She was recruited in 1996 to build a cardiac rehab unit in a new building, which included management of staff (hiring & training), selecting and purchasing exercise equipment and developing curriculum for patient education. As you can tell, DW is capable and qualified to make the kind of decision we face.
You may also have noticed I am very proud of her.

She has always been dubious about the quality of life for post-surgical transplant patients and still felt that way when I was diagnosed in 1999. However as the disease progresses toward it's natural conclusion in my body, she is beginning to feel differently, which is understandable.

It's possible that during the ensuing (nearly) nine years since diagnosis that the after care and rejection issues have improved with new meds and updated technology. DW has been a college Nursing instructor for nearly four years now, so has been out of touch with progress in these areas. Our plan is to do Internet research and to contact former colleagues whom she trusts to see if perhaps it would be desirable at this time to give it a go.

I enjoyed a good day today and went out for the first time in at least two weeks. Such days are getting fewer and farther between. Thanks again for your interest and more than anything for your prayers.

Dear Terry,

You and your precious wife are in my prayers~

Dear Heavenly Father,

You asked me to heal your children, so Lord Jesus, I lift up to you now your Son Terry and his wonderful wife. Give them STRENGH that is supernatural to overcome the obstacles and the new challenges they will face together. Send help for his precious wife after her knee replacement surgery, let them see Our Lord in action around them in your living messengers and healers. Come to them and bring your Peace, your Fortitude and your Joy for these three will be their Strength! You yourself Lord will be their deliverance from sorrow!

Lord Jesus, we thank you for the wonderful gift of the Holy Spirit, our Comfort, our Courage, our Wonderful Councelor, who is sent in an overabundance during these times! Our Lord who fed the many thousands with so few fishes and loaves, will bring you into a new plateau in the Spirit! Allow this challenge to turn your spirit into pure gold! Open your eyes and see the beauty that is the Lord amplified in your presence and feel the touch of the angels! Listen NOT to the spirit of fear, nor the spirit of despair but rather Hear the heavenly whispers of encouragement that will very soon be sent your way. Lord, I ask that you send these earth angels to your servants, Terry and his wife and let them begin to enter into a new mind, a closer walk with you! Allow this trial to elevate their souls to the heavenly realms! Allow them to see the action of the angels and saints in their precious lives! We ask for the anointing of your Son, Terry and his wife; Pour out your Spirit!

This we pray in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ! Our Savior Forever!

Amen!

Thanks all. 7T7: Wow! What an eloquent prayer. I can speak that way to other situations but for some reason am unable to be so bold for myself. Your words echo what my spirit yearns for.

May Jesus bless you all the more! :very good

Methusalah- Sorry it took me so long to get here. My twins and I pray every day for several people whome we have adopted as needing prayer. They are quite the little prayer warriors and we have seen some awsome answers to prayer. We will be praying for you and your wife for an extended period of time. L.C.
