I wonder what will come of this? This will destroy CA. Deserts cant even take an inch of rain yet along 20. Shades of the Winter 2004-2005 rainy season in California... that year clocked in at the most rain ever, since they started keeping records (give or take a tenth of an inch here and there)... memories... in January 2005 it was like God unzipped the skies and buckets rained down! but never 20 inches in one week like THIS forecast for next week... They are forecasting 5' (FEET) of snow in Flagstaff, AZ in two storms!

Please pray for them.

From another forum:

"California will be hit hard by an onslaught of major storms next week. This is a big deal, folks. Something we haven't seen the likes of in quite some time.

Powerful ocean storms are going to play tag with tropical moisture all week long, and quite a bit of that moisture will be pumped into the West Coast. California will probably get the worst of it, but the storms will produce rain all the way to British Columbia.

Along the California coast and all windward-facing slopes, rainfall totals could easily exceed a half foot by the end of the week. That means serious flooding is likely, and there is a high probability of destructive mudslides.

Along the coast, storms will produce high winds and pounding waves that can cause significant damage to oceanside properties."

Massive rain coming to Southern California 20 inches

... A MAJOR PATTERN CHANGE IS EXPECTED NEXT WEEK WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR EXCESSIVE RAINFALL AND STRONG WINDS...

A MAJOR CHANGE IN THE UPPER LEVEL PATTERN IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON SUNDAY AND CONTINUE THROUGH NEXT WEEK. A VERY POWERFUL WEST TO EAST JET STREAM SAGGING SOUTHWARD THROUGH THE PACIFIC WILL BREAK DOWN THE PERSISTENT RIDGE ACROSS THE WEST COAST. THIS WILL ALLOW A SERIES OF STORM SYSTEMS TO TRACK INTO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHILE MAINTAINING A RICH SOURCE OF SUBTROPICAL MOISTURE.

CONFIDENCE IS GROWING THAT SIGNIFICANT AND POSSIBLY EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL OCCUR OVER SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA FROM LATE SUNDAY THROUGH MOST OF NEXT WEEK. LIGHT RAIN COULD DEVELOP ACROSS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BY LATE SUNDAY... WITH INCREASING RAIN COVERAGE AND INTENSITY MONDAY INTO MONDAY EVENING. THIS FIRST SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO BRING .50 TO 2 INCHES ACROSS MOST COASTAL AND VALLEY AREAS... WITH 2 TO 4 INCHES ACROSS FOOTHILL AND MOUNTAIN AREAS. THE STATION BURN AREA CAN EXPECT THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL WITH THIS FIRST SYSTEM FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON INTO MONDAY EVENING.

THE SECOND STORM SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO AFFECT THE REGION ON TUESDAY. THE THIRD AND MOST LIKELY STRONGEST STORM SYSTEM IS EXPECTED WEDNESDAY INTO EARLY THURSDAY. A COLD AND UNSTABLE AIR MASS WILL CONTINUE TO KEEP A THREAT OF SHOWERS INTO AT LEAST FRIDAY. FOR THE ENTIRE WEEK... THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR RAINFALL TOTALS OF 4 TO 8 INCHES IN COASTAL AND VALLEY AREAS... AND 8 TO 16 INCHES IN THE FOOTHILLS AND MOUNTAINS. LOCAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OVER 20 INCHES WILL BE QUITE POSSIBLE ACROSS FAVORED SOUTH FACING COASTAL SLOPES.

THE STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS THAT ARE PROJECTED AT TIMES NEXT WEEK COULD BRING SIGNIFICANT OROGRAPHIC ENHANCEMENT OF RAINFALL ACROSS SOUTH FACING SLOPES. EARLY INDICATIONS ALSO SHOW THE POSSIBILITY OF EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS AT TIMES DURING THE WEEK. RAINFALL RATES BETWEEN ONE HALF INCH AND ONE INCH PER HOUR WILL BE POSSIBLE DURING TIMES OF HEAVIEST RAINFALL... ESPECIALLY ACROSS SOUTH FACING SLOPES. IF THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOP... THERE WILL BE THE POTENTIAL FOR ISOLATED RATES IN EXCESS OF ONE INCH PER HOUR.

THE LARGE AMOUNT OF EXPECTED PRECIPITATION... AS WELL AS THE POTENTIAL FOR HIGH INTENSITY RAINFALL... WILL BRING A SIGNIFICANT THREAT OF FLASH FLOODING AND DEBRIS FLOWS... ESPECIALLY TO THE RECENT BURN AREAS. AS SOILS BECOME MORE SATURATED THROUGH THE WEEK... THERE COULD ALSO BE AN INCREASED RISK OF URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING. IF THE STRONG STORM MATERIALIZES FOR THE WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY TIME FRAME... THERE COULD ALSO BE SOME MAIN STEM RIVER FLOODING CONCERNS.

SNOW LEVELS ARE GENERALLY EXPECTED TO RANGE BETWEEN 4000 AND 6000 FEET NEXT WEEK. AS STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS PRECEDE THE STRONG SYSTEMS... SNOW LEVELS SHOULD BRIEFLY RISE ABOVE 6000 FEET ON MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS NEXT WEEK... WITH SEVERAL FEET OF NEW SNOW POSSIBLE AT RESORT LEVELS ABOVE 6000 FEET.

THERE WILL LIKELY BE PERIODS OF STRONG SOUTHERLY WINDS NEXT WEEK... WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR WIDESPREAD GALE FORCE WINDS ACROSS THE COASTAL WATERS AND DAMAGING WINDS ACROSS PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA. AS THESE STORMS MOVE INTO THE AREA NEXT WEEK... THEY WILL ALSO BRING THE POTENTIAL FOR A LONG DURATION OF HEAVY SURF CONDITIONS AND DANGEROUS RIP CURRENTS TO LOCAL BEACHES. THE COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS AND HIGH SEAS COULD ALSO BRING SOME COASTAL FLOODING ISSUES... ESPECIALLY NEAR TIMES OF HIGH TIDE.

RESIDENTS OF SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA ARE URGED TO STAY TUNED FOR THE LATEST INFORMATION ON THESE POTENTIALLY STRONG STORM SYSTEMS.

Another poster:

Uh oh.. heavy rain dumps = extra pressure on plates = big quake! Mark my words. Seen it happen in my own country.
In NZ we get what we call weather bombs, which is where a huge amount of water is dumped in a very short time. Normally big storms just blow out to sea and aren't much of an issue.
However, I recall on a couple of occasions where this has happened, immediately followed by a huge quake (over 6.8) in the affected region, while there was still flooding from the bomb....A double whammy really.
But yes, it can and does happen. There is speculation that it is because of the sudden increase in pressure that the tons and tons of water have on an already unstable plate.

from the L.A. Times, this morning:
http://www.latimes.com/news/la-me-storms16-2010jan16,0,7290417.story?track=rss&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+latimes%2Fnews+%28L.A.+Times+-+Top+News%29&utm_content=My+Yahoo

""This is their worst nightmare," said Bill Patzert, a climatologist with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Caņada Flintridge. "It will be unrelenting."

Four storms are expected to move through the region between late Sunday and Friday, dropping 4 to 8 inches of rain in the coastal and valley areas, and 8 to 16 inches in the foothills and mountains, according to the National Weather Service."

If there was large scale devastation in the USA who could aid us??
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. The Lord God would aid us, just like He will aid Israel in their time of need with supernatural protection from the enemy.

God will not forsake us in our time of need.

Our nation has given and given and given over the years to the hurting nations of our world.

:duh I knew I should have done my shopping today while there was only light rain.

My immediate worry is that we have a huge oak tree in out back yard that I worry about falling. Not with regular storms, but when we have soaking rain that really saturates the ground I get a little nervous-especially if we then get heavy winds.

We are told in the Word that we should rejoice when tribulation comes, for to cleanse the earth of its sin, the baptism of water can be overwhelming.

The Lord also said that He shall protect you, who have put their sole trust in Him. Fear not!

This word for you, OnTheHorizon:

Isa.6
[13] But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.

Isa.44
[14] He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it.

Know that the root bed of the oak is as big as its branches!
