Most churches have a one-man professional (paid) minister; what are your views on this being what Jesus wanted for the church? When I preach/teach or minister, I do as Paul did....it is my service to the Kingdom of God with NO pay expected or wanted. I feel bad about accepting money for my service to the Kingdom; so I don't do it. I know that the workman is due his wage.....our last pastor of a 60 member church was getting over $100,000+ per year. In the first church, ALL were ministers and they ALL ministered with NO pay. All were equal. The Amish & German Baptist and like Plain dressing groups have a group of Elders, which minister without pay. Just asking for your opinion, many thanks. |

I can understand where your heart is on this subject. It is a blessing to come across a workmen in the house of God whose motives are not to be selfish and fleece the sheep. IMO, it would be completely scriptural to accept/receive pay for what you do. It is a difference when your heart is motivated by being a workmen in the house of God and bringing in the harvest, then big money and cars and fleecing the sheep for your own purposes. 1 Timothy 5:17 Elders who do their work well should be respected and paid well, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching. Romans 13:6 says "Pay your taxes, too, for these same reasons. For government workers need to be paid. They are serving God in what they do." The word tells us that government workers need to be paid for they are serving the Lord in what they do. Just as you are serving the Lord in what you do. You should not feel bad about being paid for it. But as always..TAKE IT TO THE LORD IN PRAYER

Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

I grew up (as a 3rd gen) in the A/G church. When I first heard about how the children of Israel begged Moses to stand between them and God to deliver God's messages because of their fear of God, I was appalled. Why wouldn't everyone want to met with and commune with God for himself? Protestants love to point to the catholics with ridicule because of this very issue, but don't our churches do the same thing? We hang out our sign, Preacher for Hire, then wait for men to show up bragging about how many years they have devoted to learning Greek, Hebrew, exegesis, and of course hermanutics. Why? So that we can sit back in our pew on Sunday and have a paid professional stand between us and God. BTW, I went to The A/G liberal arts college in Mecca(Springfield, Mo). I personally know kids who anguished over and eventually lied about believing the A/G fundamental truths because otherwise they would have been denied a ministerial license and therefore nullifying their 4 year degree in biblical Studies. Personally, I prefer Pauls ideology, I strive to know nothing more than Jesus Christ and him crucified. Let the preachers preach all they want, I prefer to hear from God myself and from others whose only degree was earned on their knees before and awesome God. Paula |

Just for clarification, my above statement is in no regard dismisising the all important significance of the word of God. And any word that anyone receives cannot contradict the word and still be from God. Thanks Paula |
