I see many people on the news living out of cars because they could no longer afford rent, etc. If a person who lives in these new car communities accepts Jesus, will their luck change? I mean, REALLY accepts Jesus. Not just says it to see if they get out of the situation they are in. I also saw this quote on the trunews website while thinking of this very thing: The King's sons and daughters shall prosper throughout the global financial meltdown "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away." Psalm 1:1-5 |

In a word, No. Remember this? Luk 16:19 ¶ There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: Luk 16:20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, Luk 16:21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. Luk 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; Luk 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Luk 16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. Luk 16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. Luk 16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that [would come] from thence. Luk 16:27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: Luk 16:28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Luk 16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. Luk 16:30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. Luk 16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. |

Pinky, I believe it would depend entirely on the individual's calling in life. Some may have a ministry that would be enhanced by owning very little and living out of a car. To most of us, it seems like a dismal existence, but think of the freedom to move the moment you hear the Lord's instruction, no longer being enslaved by a lifetime collection of Stuff. On the other hand, others may be prospered greatly, with a calling of bringing people into their homes and ministering to them right there, having plenty of anything that a person could need. So, I think it could go either way, or somewhere in the middle, for example, having sufficient money and/or goods to be able to richly support existing outreach ministries in the local area. However it manifests, the bottom line would be the inner glow and joy of the person who's truly being about the Father's business and knows it. ETA: "One size does not fit all."

Thank you two for your responses. And the Bible scriptures. I agree with them both.

Wow... very thought provoking. I agree with your scriptures Daylate and Pamelot. The riches and abundance that Jesus promised certainly has nothing to do with money or houses or clothes. I've met some of the happiest people living in run down shacks with little to their name. And some of the most unsatisfied people living in 5,000 square feet homes, with vacation houses, expensive cars with nothing out of their reach. |

Yeah, I agree with you guys: Luke 6:20 Looking at his disciples, he said: "Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. |

Poor in spirit. Jesus wasn't referring to material poverty, but to people who recognize their spiritual need. Edited by kgreen20, Aug 3 2008, 02:34 PM.

Certainly when we are at our lowest lows, we are in a great place to receive from God. Poverty is but one of those places that position us to depend on God, both for means and for spiritual sustenance to carry through difficult times. |

Yeah, thats what I meant: James 1:9-11 9 Believers who are poor have something to boast about, for God has honored them. 10 And those who are rich should boast that God has humbled them. They will fade away like a little flower in the field. 11 The hot sun rises and the grass withers; the little flower droops and falls, and its beauty fades away. In the same way, the rich will fade away with all of their achievements. |

Seems to me the only things we can expect in this life are the persecutions. Everything else will have to wait till we get to Heaven. |
