My wife had both knees replaced Friday morning and is having a terrible time in recovery. She has received five units of blood since that time, her blood pressure has risen, her calcium dropped to a dangerous level due largely to the blood loss (her hemoglobin has registered as low as 6.7 since Friday). They have given here three different drugs for pain (at the same time) and they came close to sending her to ICU Saturday night for cardiac observation. The bleeding makes the pain more severe and of course weakens the body. She should be walking the halls by now but as of today has only been helped to a chair eight feet from the bed and rested for more than hour before returning to bed. The total time estimate for both time away from home between surgery, recovery, the orthopedic floor and rehab was originally 10-14 days. It now appears she may not be home for up to three weeks. It's been difficult to be "Home Alone" since I am used to her helping me with my own health care (oxygen, insulin, meds and housework) and just the daily hospital visits wear me out. Before her surgery I had been averaging about two days "out" per month. I'm whipped and we could really use some outside assistance in the form of restorative, healing prayer and just good old fashioned moral support. We have no family within 1250 miles and the isolation is difficult at such a time. Now that you know what to pray for, feel free to do what all believers can do for one another and PLEASE PRAY. I am not used to feeling so helpless and weak in the face of obstacles such as this. Thanks for listening and for your ongoing encouragement. TL

An update-Praise Report After a bumpy start, Kay was finally able to walk after five days (usually two) and was sent to rehab unit on Wednesday. If all goes well she'll be home a week from today, just a day or two longer than the original estimate. We both want to thank you for the heartfelt prayers from the bottom of our hearts! Love in Jesus, TL (Methuselah) & Kay

I can't explain how it feels to read these posts and the love that is conveyed for Methuselah and his wife. I have been very ill for about 7 years now but the Lord has seen fit to start healing me and I am so grateful. I would like everyone to pray for me to be able to find a home church where I can use my spiritual gifts of mercy and teaching. I don't have a car and pray either for me a car or a ride to church with someone who will not mind coming and picking me up. I have sorely missed the fellowship of the brothers and sisters in Christ, and actually, this is my first actual contact with a body of loving believers online. I will continue to pray for you Methuselah and your darling wife. I understand, I was in the hospital 2 years ago for a month and then had to go to rehab for a month, and I am in Michigan, but I come from Tennessee. Blessedly, my children are here. God bless you all, and give God all the Glory. I love you.

Thank 7Seven, Susan, Belinda and SavedbyGrace. I'm told to expect my wife's release Friday. I'll believe it when I see it! Sure hope so... SavedbyGrace, I just left a welcome greeting in the New Members thread. Thanks so much for sharing. It is easier to bear one's burdens when we find someone we can relate to. We started our life's journey in MI. It makse sense that you chose to be near your children and it is a beautiful state... Just wish the economy and problems with the auto companies would turn around. Kay & I both have large families back there. Thanks all. Once Kay is home, she'll have about six more weeks of in-house rehab to do. She'll be glad to regain the full use of her legs and I know I'll be happy once her life is not a daily work out anymore. Thanks all for keeping her (us) in your prayers. Edited by METHUSELAH, Jun 18 2008, 11:02 PM.

Thanks Belinda... Since the last update Kay experienced a severe reaction due to the abrupt withdrawal from Ultram ER (a pain killer). This event set back Kay's recovery another week due to P.T. sessions that had to be cancelled, but I'm happy to report that ten days later she is feeling well again and back on the road to recovery. This is turning out to be a L-O-N-G summer emotionally, but amazingly the time has flown. We are expecting a visit from out-of-state family members August 7th (preparation is a stress in itself ; ) and hopefully DW will return to work August 19th as scheduled.

I am so pleased to hear that Kay is doing better Terry. Praise God for His mighty hand of healing. August is not that far off until she starts work again, so we will continue to pray for her health and strength. If your family members are coming for a visit, let them take care of you! I am sure that is why they are visiting you. Just take it a day at a time. So glad to see you back here at the board Terry. We always enjoy your posts and commentary! Be blessed and keep your spirits up and know we are keeping you both in prayer. |
